Must be the biannual blog from the Barbers!

I'm feeling guilty.....everybody wants blogs..... Well, I got in the vicinity of the family computer. No kids MSN'g, no Alan limewiring. I'll be putting my foot down soon on this computer anyways since school starts shortly. I'm taking the Payroll Level 1 course....under duress. But work is paying for it (when I pass it of course).

All the kids are back in school. Adam and Colin both graduate this year. I'm a little concerned about the teachers strike for them since they have provincial exams to write regardless of the amount of instruction they receive. Some of the teachers are creating and selling handbooks/workbooks for the grade 12's. I bought a History 12 workbook for Adam ($26) for him to work through. It's geared towards the provincial so even if the teachers are out for a spell, if he does the work he may be okay for the exam. Not ideal but better to be safe than sorry. I believe his Physics teacher is doing the same. Speaking of his Physics teacher....what a riot this guy is. He now has 9 microwaves in the lab that he blows things up in. Apparently soap expands a great deal and ostrich eggs will tear your micro apart. I wonder if the school insurance covers maiming by flying ostrich parts.

Elly has decided not to rejoin the Vic High R &B band this year. Her father is in mourning. It's just not her thing. Colin made the cut again this year. He is 1st trombone. There is a new trombone player this year. He came from the Esquimalt Jazz band. Colin has also taken up rowing this year and is quite happy with the direction his pecs are taking. Just ask...he'll show you!

Rachel is back at Camosun college for the remainder of her transfer to Pharmacy courses. She'll be applying to Universites next spring. We'll see what happens. She has a new job, bussing at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel. She is working her way up to waiting at which time she should be making fabulous tips. She is also talking about tree planting next spring. We'll see what happens. At the moment she is at home sick with something or other. I'm thinking she's mostly run down because she leads a hectic life. Working 2 jobs, taking college courses, belongs to a gym, has a very active social life and the boyfriend. Oh yeah, new boyfriend...Juan. He's a pretty good guy, same age as her. Manager at McDonalds...saving for University. Alan and I work with his dad so we're familiar with the family. Really nice people.

Pixel the cat who abandoned us at Christmas for the family across the street has been showing up at the door lately. He won't come in but he will allow us to pet him and feed him. We're rebuilding our relationship.

Alan and the Wharf street boys are gearing up for the 2nd annual Wharf Street Band Halloween bash. They've added some classic rock to their line up. Sounds really good. We're trying to come up with costumes.....I was an ageing rock groupie to his ageing rock star last year.

Alan is also gearing up for the half marathon on Thanksgiving day. I, in my right mind, declined this year. I am running again though. The hip is coming along nicely and getting stronger. I pulled off 8 K last Sunday at our usual Elk Lake run. Feels good.

That's all for now. It's like an information purge....

Take care all
Lyn
