hi all!

so i had my surgery yesterday...you'll have to excuse the lack of capitals as i am relegated to one finger typing and i just can't be bothered to figure out how to use the shift key. for those of you who don't know, i had a goodly sized ganglion on my left hand. it's been a part of my anatomy for many years. it comes and goes but this last incarnation got to be big and adventurous. it climbed up the back of my hand. looked like i had a tiny mouse, tail and all, under the skin. so i decided it was time to get rid of it. they decided not to put me under general aenesthetic which i was glad about. instead they gave me a sedative and a nerve block. so there i was, both arms strapped to boards straight out from my body, you know...crucifix position...with intravenous up both hands and a fancy tourniquet above my left elbow. that, i was told, would prevent the 'freezing' they were pumping into my arm from going to my brain. a good thing. the sedative allowed me to watch the entire operation. very cool but i can understand why they prefer to put some people out. there's nothing so talkative or smartmouthed as an ousey on drugs. 'watch ya doing now'...wow...is that my blood....i smell chicken (that was while he was cauterizing the tiny blood vessels). i think he was trying to get back at me 'cause when he got the little bugger out he waggled in front of my face. guess he thought i'd be grossed out. i merely asked if i could keep it. he said no. well anyways, alan picked me up...he said i was still giggly. i know i wasn't feeling any pain. went and got my presciption filled...empracet...some kind of mix of tylenol 3 and codeine....should be fun. haven't had to take any yet 'cause my hand is still numb. it is ever so slowly coming back to life. had a bad moment in the middle of the night when i thought the doctor, in a fit of pique due to my 'chattiness', severed the nerve in my hand, but no, when i wiggle my fingers i can feel pain. i am in a splint for 2 weeks. so i am home today - back to work tomorrow.

gotta go now. it's taken me an hour just to type this up and my finger is tired. all is well here. got both rachel and adam to help.

ps. rachel came home last night proudly toting a six pack of rasberry vex. (gooey sweet vodka drink). she was disappointed that she didn't get i.d'd at the liquor store but not to worry 'cause she did get id'd earlier at the pub! so proud of that girl. she drank 2 and promptly went to bed. newby!

Hello everybody,
Please refrain from fainting or swooning.....I don't want you to hurt yourselves! Yes, I am updating the blog......yes, I know it's about time. What can I say...it's been a busy year.

Let's start with February....Adam turned 16 and is now learning how to drive a car and his mother is learning how to be a passenger. So far so good...pretty much 'cause the kid is patient with his mother.
March....nothing fun happened in March.
April....much fun happened in April. Most of you were there for it. Alan and I got married on the 17th in the presence of our family and bestest friends. Our out of town guests were comprised of Uncle Dennis from Winnipeg (Yeah!) and Uncle Lewis from Saskatoon (Yeah!) and Noni from Langford (Yeah!). It was a lovely ceremony and a wonderful afternoon spent with our loved ones and thinking of our loved ones who weren't able to join us that day.

We spread our wedding celebrations out for a good 3 months. On June 12th, we put together a party for all the friends that we hadn't invited to the wedding. We also celebrated Alan's debut cd with his band, The Wharf Street Blues Band. They played at the party and much fun was had by all. Learning a few things from my Mom and Noni I purchased (okay so I'm not suzy homemaker...anybody in my life knows that!) enough appetizer type stuff to feed a aircraft carrier. We had appetizer dinners for a week after the party. Believe I still have mini quiche in the freezer.

I forgot about May....May was when the boys went into the studio and recorded. They are using it to garner gigs. So far they received a 8 year olds birthday party....okay so she's the daughter of the bassist but it was a good gig anyways. The also got a gig from our wedding/cd debut party. The next door neighbors. That was a blast on July 4th. As official band groupie I got to attend. The police even attended...well they weren't exactly invited by us...they were invited by the #@$%# neighbour down the street.

June....wedding party already covered. I got to travel to San Francisco for a SAP training course. Was there a week but only really got to bomb around San Fran on the saturday. Beautiful city...rode the trolley cars but mostly walked, not around the city, but up and down the city. It's very, very hilly! Unfortunately my new hubbie wasn't able to come with me as it was work related...got to go with my boss instead and two other co-workers.

July...honeymoon! We had 2 weeks to do whatever we wanted....close by and cheap. Alan's father, Roy, built this beautiful 33 foot sailboat (named Adrift) many years ago. Alan's brother Peter co owns it with him and, being the poor relations, we got it for a week. We took it out and anchored at Winter Cove on Saturna Island (our favorite place), Horton Bay on Mayne Island, Montague Harbour on Galiano Island and Selby Cove on Prevost Island. The weather was fantastic; we got thoroughly baked. Saw lots of wildlife; eagles, seals, porpoises, otters, turkey vultures and german tourists. Love sailing! After the boating, we took our little miata to the west coast. We stayed in a cabin in Ucluelet (South of Tofino). Again the weather was spectacular and we baked some more. We had a wonderful time and did not want to return to work. In fact, it's August and I still have to talk Alan into going to work every morning.

August.....the kid turns 19. She can drive, vote and now legally drink. She's off to college this year but still living at home for at least one more year anyways. With Mom & Dads help we set her up with her own workspace office downstairs so she won't be tippy-tapping away upstairs at 3 am keeping the rest of us awake while she gets some paper done thats due in 5 hours. Besides that will probably be me since I'm going back to school this fall too! I found I really don't have too much to do, what with raising 2 teenagers plus 2 more part-time, working full-time plus one part-time, renovating a house, and the ever-present workout in my mortal combat against aging. More about that later.... Anyways, I've found a program at the University of Victoria that fits the bill quite nicely. So I start classes next month. It's a 3 year program called Computer Based Information Systems Certificate. Going to be fun:)

About the aging thing....I've been told by my doctor to quit running....it seems I have injured myself to the point of arthritis onset in my hip. So now I'm popping aspirin like vitamins...MOST FRUSTRATING....still haven't quite gotten over it. He said I could still run if I want to....but don't plan on being able to walk when I'm 70. Nice. So new plan.....getting together a team to do triathlons...I'm going to do either the swimming or the biking and someone else....namely Alan....gets to do the running bits. I'm trying to talk my boss into doing the biking bits. Side plan....seeing a naturopath to really look at this whole arthritis gig..see if we can make it go away or at least manage it without aspirin.

Well, that's about all. I'm a lousy correspondent..which you all already knew. Mostly wanted to to thank everyone again for coming to our wedding and give you an update on the rest of the story so far. Life is very good :)
Until next time...
