My health is improving finally. It was a rough couple of weeks. On Wednesday I woke up with a headache and called my doctor to see if I could take a sinus headache pill. I was concerned about a conflict with the medications I was on for the Menieres (that's the vertigo thingy I was diagnosed with). Next thing ya know I'm back in the hospital for a CT scan. Fortunately all it came up with was a case of sinusitis. So now I'm on medication for that too. I am, however, now weaned off the other meds so I'm a little more alert than I have been. I'm phasing in going back to work.....mornings only and I get to go home and nap in the afternoon. My boss doesn't want me to come back to soon....he's a really good guy.
Alan and I have received our first quote on having all our windows replaced....OUCH! We've got a few more quotes to go. Hopefully, they come well under this one. They have to be done regardless. This last winter was quite rough on the old things....they won't last another one like that. We've also pulled apart Ellie's room to paint it. She's chosen a nice reddish brown.
Kids are all doing well. Rachel will start looking for an apartment this week. She's really looking forward to her own place. Because I was sick I wasn't able to take Adam to his information session at BCIT last Wednesday so we've re-booked it for March 21. He's really hoping a move to Vancouver this fall will all work out.
Alan's guitar that he's building is coming along beautifully. We'll post pictures when it's finished. I'll post pictures of my blanket box as well. Only two more classes and it will be done.
Well...bedtime. Night all

dizzy blonde
I bet this sounds pretty familiar to Mom. I remember she had something very similar....probably around the same age that I am now.
Prognosis: It will resolve itself over the next week to a few weeks. All I can do is deal with the symptoms. No driving, no cycling (which is a major bummer since the weather is back sunny and beautiful). I'm to carry on as per normal leaving out the risky balancing type activities. Right now sitting in a chair appears to be risky for me. Enough of that...it will resolve itself over time. I'll cope.
So the celebratory wine was for a clear mammogram. At my last physical, Dr. Shoichet found a lump in my right breast. Probably a cyst he says and I cling to that for the week it takes to get me in for a diagnostic mammogram, ultrasound and possible biopsy. Went for the mammogram (Alan went with me). After the radiologist reveiwed the pictures he sent me home....I was fine. Whatever Dr. Shoichet felt was not there anymore. I think he burst it when palpating because I could certainly feel it and it hurt! Anyways, always a good wake up call to get those mammograms done on a timely basis, girls!
So we drank a glass of really nice wine and I barfed it up.....such a goomba.
Everybody else is fine...thank heavens.

Adam is 19
His plans to go to BCIT are coming together. He and Jason (his friend who will be going to UBC) and I are going to Vancouver on the 21st to attend an info session on the computer programs. We'll also toodle around and check out some housing.
He's also agreed to get his drivers license before he moves to Vancouver. He's going to sign up for some private driving lessons to get him started. Now that he's past the year with his L (even though he didn't actually do much driving) he's eligible to go for his N anytime. He could have it by summer.
Rachel seems to be doing well. Really enjoyed her trip to Cornwall to visit her Nana and has settle into her job and school. She'll be needing to start looking for a new pad soon. Alan and I will go around with her to check things out. She wants to go solo but I'm not all that confident she'll have the cash flow for it. I'm going to do a little cash flow training with both the kids to help them understand what they can afford and what they can't.
I'm stunned that I could be an empty nester by the end of summer. I was ready for Rachel to take the next step in her life...wasn't thinking that Adam would be flying the coop so soon. Well, we'll see how it all works out....
Started my woodworking course on Saturday. We're making a blanket box. I will use it to keep my bike gear in order in my bedroom. It's made from knotty pine and a pretty simple design. I just finished a wooden pull toy at Roy's. It's called a stack-a-saurus. Its a brontosaurus on lots of wheels and it stacks up on itself.
see pictures. I'm planning on giving this to Andrew
(Pat & Harv's little boy) (they're friends from work). I'm making a little pull dog next. That will be for Dacian who is Varinia and Calin's little guy born on Remembrance day. They're our Romanian friends. Also from work. Then I'll have to make something for their daughter, Ortanza. She's 4. I'll have to think of something she'd like. Maybe a dolly cradle or highchair. Well, I'm having much fun doing it. Eventually, I hope to be good enough to take on some furniture projects...like a coffee table.Alan's guitar is coming along. He's got the body cut out and laminated with the front and back. The back is a reddish wood called padouk and the front is walnut. He's starting the neck now. Some of the electronics arrived in the mail today....he's very excited. We'll have to send some pictures of it.

Snowing again
Alan is just recovering from a cold; fortunately I didn't get it....yet.
Adam has moved downstairs and is very happy in his new room. We got the computers all sorted out last night. It's been really quiet with Rachel away! We're going to have dinner on Thursday night, her and I. I'm looking forward to seeing her.
Time for breakfast. I had started to send an email to Mom and Dad, then realized I should just put this in a blog for all. Getting smarter, eh?
as Dad says, Ciao for now.

Happy New Year
I like this picture. There are very few of me that I don't want to shred upon viewing.So....a year in a nutshell.
Adam and Colin graduated highschool. Yeah... Adam is working as a cook/dishwasher at a local restaurant and saving tons of money for college in September.
Colin is at college in the Electrical Engineering program. He grew another inch or so and is now gotta be 6'4".
Adam took this of himself sitting in the doorway of our house. He's almost smiling....
Rachel got accepted to the Nursing Program at Camosun College....for the 2008 intake! She is on the waitlist for 2007 so we're hoping that loads of kids go somewhere else so she can start in September 2007. At the moment Rachel is taking a few courses just to keep her student status and benefits. She's missing her boyfriend quite a bit as he is away in Rossland snowboarding and won't be back til March.
His name is Saul and he's from New Zealand. He extended his work visa for another year...guess he likes it in Canada:) That's Rachel on the right. Rachel is going to Cornwall sometime in the latter part of January to visit her Nana (her father's mother). Nana is very excited and this will be the first time Rachel flies solo.
Ellie is in grade 11 and doing well. She is working as well and enjoying her spending money. She's also learning to drive. She's out with her dad right now having dinner. They go out once a week just the two of them. Alan loves it.
Here is our cat, Toby. Toby is well loved especially by Alan. He's more like a dog, really. He follows us around the yard and drinks out of the tub. He used to drink out of the toilet. I'm glad he switched to the tub although he hasn't learned how to turn the taps off yet.
I had a very busy year....took a course (aced it), organized a convention (success!), and got a raise (not a huge one but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick). I've been riding my new bike. Alan sold two guitars and bought me a brand new Fuji. Fits like a glove and rides real nice. Got a lot of toys for it now too. Alan gave me a bike computer for my birthday that tracks mileage, speed, cadence and the like. For Christmas, he gave me a wind trainer. see picture. I can now ride nowhere really fast in my TV room.
I can pop it on and off quickly. We had a very nice Christmas. Managed to make all the kids happy and each other. We had Christmas dinner at Noni's. Excellent as usual. Noni and John are learning to share the kitchen and appreciate each others special cooking skills....
Alan and I hosted the Barber family dinner on Boxing day. It was a lovely and much quieter evening. The next day Alan and I took off to Pender Island for 3 days and enjoyed the much needed downtime.
We had a very special visit this year from Aunt Catherine. We went out to view the Christmas lights around town. We managed to find some really well down houses. We toodled around looking for one house that we eventually found that wired up his lights to blink with music. You tuned to a fm frequency and he had 5 kids carols playing. It was cool. Then we went for drinks at a local pub. Another day we spent shopping , shopping, shopping and on her last evening with us we all went out to dinner and then some dancing at Swans. We had a wonderful visit and I'm really looking forward to this summer when she's moved out this way.
This is a lousy picture but it was the only one from our dinner night that was close to okay. The really blurry face between Aunt Catherine and Rachel is Saul.
Well, I'm done for tonight. The BarberOusey Clan wishes all our loved ones a wonderful 2007.

I am finally free of the payroll course! I wrote the exam this morning and now it's in someone else's hands. I'll be jumping all over my boss now to put in the reclass since it was his bright idea that I take the godforsaken course. In all the courses I have taken, this was, without a doubt, the most poorly presented. It's truly amazing that I learned anything. I eventually figured out I could go to the government payroll website and learn what I needed to know. Now I can get on with building my bed with my father-in-law, Roy.
Speaking of Roy, he's mending well after his surgery. Catherine, it sounds like he had the same issue with his carotid arteries as you did. One was 95% blocked and the other was 50% blocked. The only symptom he had was a blurring of vision for brief periods of time. He went to his opthamologist who checked his eyes. Nothing wrong with his eyes so was sent back to his G.P. who arranged for a meeting with a cardiologist. Before he even had a chance to meet with the cardiologist, he had more episodes. His GP told him to go the the emergency. They admitted him and a couple of days later he had his surgery. They took a vein from his leg and re-routed around the blockage on the really bad side. He was pretty tired for a week or so but seems to be getting his strength back now.
Adam and I had a great time in Richmond for his very last hockey tournament. The boys did very well, making it to the semifinals. Adam played great and even won MVP for the game that got them to the semifinals. He scored the tiebreaker in overtime on a breakaway. It was quite a moment for him (and me in the stands !) He was mobbed by his team and hero for the day. A wonderful way for the kid to finish off his minor hockey career. I told him his job now is to grow up, get married and give me hockey playing grandchildren in, say, 10 years. I'm gonna be a GREAT hockey grandma. Ah well...all in good time.
I guess the big news now is that Nonuts has a new beau. His name is John Wright. (Mr. Wright...ha, ha) (Noni will probably be sore at me for stealing her joke but...she who blogs first gets all the "good" jokes) He is also a sales rep for North Douglas just like her. He has a son named Jacob who is nine and very cute. We got to meet John quite early so this means she's quite serious about him. He seems smitten. I smell a relationship brewing!
Well, it's 9:15 pm and well on the way to my bed time. I got caught up on all the blogs. Glad to hear Aunt Catherine and Grandma had a good visit in Oklahoma and made it home on the right plane. Hope their trip here is smooth. Really looking forward to seeing them...really, really. Family is precious.
Now I'm going to send an email to all those who may be interested in the fact that I finally blogged again. Nighty night. Love to all.

Well it's been about 4 months since my last blog. A lot has happened in that time, the most significant of which is the untimely passing of my uncle Dennis. But since most of the readers of this blog are family, you are already well aware of it. Suffice to say, his passing was sudden, unexpected, very unfair and has left us all in a state of unbelief still. I think about him frequently and remind myself of how very fleeting life is. We are only guaranteed the present so you'd better be happy now and if you're not.....do something about it soon. Ah well....
Colin is working at McDonalds now and is sometimes bossed around by his favourite step-sister, Rachel. She says he's doing very well and is quite well liked there. His parents are thrilled. They will be even more thrilled if he saves up the money he's supposed to for his band trip to Denmark. He seems to be doing it though. Rachel has officially quit McDonalds. Her last day is January 31st. She's very happy with her decision. It was hard for her to go in and resign but she learned alot about how to handle this sort of thing. She is still floundering on what to do about her future. She's talking about moving out with some friends this summer. We'll see..... I know that would be a great experience for her (and Adam is looking forward to moving into her room!) but I worry about her not continuing her education. Speaking of Adam.....he has decided not to go to school after graduation. He's going to work for a while. He is also talking about moving out.....with his sister! I think I talked him into staying with us and saving his money for school which he does want to do the following year. Or he'll travel...Who knows. That one is fairly private. Just like Elly. Speaking of Elly.....she is same-o, same-o. A new lip piercing, however. She claims she'll grow out of it and let the hole grow over. We'll see....
Alan is practising like a demon. I am a jazz widow. He is gearing up for a gig (paying!) with Dave Pretty's band for a forestry convention coming up in February. He's also taking private lessons in jazz guitar. So I study my idiot payroll course and he plucks away at 'Fly me to the Moon' and the like. He's facing a potential strike vote of all his employees. They're meeting tonight on the issue. He's the only one in all of CRD that has employees in a different union. Makes his job just that much more 'enjoyable'. They clash often with CUPE. If they strike, then Alan is THE ESSENTIAL SERVICE for the watershed. He'll be on standby 24/7 and patrolling the grounds on weekends. Oh joy :) Once again....we'll see what happens. Seems like I say 'we'll see' alot.
As for me....I'm continuing with my "portal project' at work. It's interesting and I've had some successes with sorting out some long standing authorization issues in the program. That in itself is worth it. We're sorting out what training courses I'll be going on this year. Most likely more Human Resources/Payroll courses in Toronto. Alan will come with me as we have friends, Blair and Anne, there. Other than that....I'm still plugging away on this stupid Payroll course. It will all be over by the end of March. And then I get to start a very exciting project for me. Roy, my father-in-law, and I are going to build a bed frame for Alan and I. We've already ordered the plans. It's going to be quite an endeavour for me and, hopefully, one that will start off a fun, creative and useful hobby for me.
Time to go.....I promised Dad I would publish this post tonight.
bye for now
